With the 2024 tax season now in full swing, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has once again issued a warning to South African taxpayers to remain vigilant when submitting their tax returns.
As reported by The South African website, the latest scam is an email asking you to click on a link, seemingly from www.sars.gov.za, but linking to a fraudulent website.
How to spot a fraudulent link
Always hover over hyperlinks to make sure it’s a sars.gov.za link:
Meanwhile, earlier this month SARS issued a warning to taxpayers about another scam where taxpayers have received a SMS indicating that they are eligible for a refund.
To ‘complete your refund’ the scam asks that you click a link, which links to a fraudulent website.

Protect yourself from scams and phishing!
Do not open or respond to emails from unknown sources
Beware of emails or SMSs asking for personal, tax, banking or eFiling details
SARS will never send you hyperlinks to other websites
SARS urged taxpayers to watch a tutorial video on how to spot scams.
All known scams are listed on the Scams and Phishing webpage and if in doubt, email the IT security team on [email protected].
