Hibs fans stage sit-in protest as pressure mounts on Nick Montgomery after latest loss to Aberdeen

HIBS fans staged a sit-in protest after their side’s 4-0 thrashing at home to Aberdeen.

Pressure was already rising on manager Nick Montgomery after the Easter Road side failed to make the top six for the post-split fixtures.

And back-to-back losses to first Ross County and now the Dons have put Montgomery under serious scrutiny.

Goals from Leighton Clarkson and Dante Polvara had the visitors two ahead at the break.

And they piled on the misery in the second half with Bojan Miovski and 16-year-old debutant Fletcher Boyd doubling Aberdeen’s lead.

Many of the Hibs supporters had already headed for the exits by the time the fourth went in.

But a few of the club’s ultras stayed to the final whistle – and then beyond.

Radio Scotland reported that around 50 or 60 fans had chosen to stay put come the end of the game.

Sportsound host Richard Gordon said it was a “good natured” protest but the fans had elected to stay seated after being “asked to leave”.

Former Hibs boss and lifelong fan John Hughes was one of the pundits covering the match at Easter Road.

And Yogi admitted “the jury is still out” on Montgomery as a number of the club’s fans called for the manager to go now – even though there are just two games of the season left.

Hughes told the BBC: “It was like an end of season game from Hibs with no desire, no real commitment.

“They’ve got a lot of good footballers but they’re all too much of the same.

“Hibs never really created many, many chances. They were second best which is disappointing.

“I’m not one of these guys who gets caught up in the propaganda.

“I’m not a happy clapper, I can see it for myself.

“I’m still 50/50, I think the jury’s still out on Nick.

“He’s saying there’s a lot of good stuff going on behind the scenes.

“I’m still wanting to give him the chance because Hibs, over the last four, five years, just go through manager after manager after manager.

“It can’t always be the manager. I’m a supporter and you can hear the frustration in my voice as well.
