A major rescue operation is underway in Perth’s northern suburbs after a man fell and became trapped in a hole.
Both paramedics and firefighters are responding to reports the man became trapped inside either a hole or a trench near Orbell Road just before 3pm.
Two ambulances are at the scene but are unable to attend to the man until firefighters extract the patient.
Footage taken from above the pit — which is in the backyard of a property — shows the man covering himself in a blanket to stay warm as emergency services crowd around him.

It is believed one of his legs is trapped in the dirt beneath him.
At least a dozen firefighters are at the scene and are set to remove a neighbouring fence to better access the man — who fell into the hole before he became stuck.
Paramedics are on standby next to the hole as firefighters use specialised trench equipment to reach the man.

The walls of the trench have been barricaded by crews to prevent any dirt from collapsing on him.
By 5pm, more than two hours after emergency services rushed to the scene, the man remained stuck in the hole.
It is unknown what the man was doing at the time.
A St John spokeswoman said while the man is conscious, it is unknown if he has suffered any injuries.
