Himachal CM announces to set up ‘Rajya Chayan Aayog’ in place of Staff Selection Commission

SHIMLA: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday announced that ‘Rajya Chayan Aayog‘ in place of the defunct Staff Selection Commission would be set up in Hamirpur within the next two months to ensure fairness in the selection criteria of candidates. He said that his government is committed to bringing transparency in the recruitment process and ensuring a merit-based selection process. Sukhu made this announcement while launching the Mukhya Mantri Sporting Abilities, Rebuilding Aspirations and Livelihood Scheme (SABAL) from his home assembly segment Nadaun in Hamirpur district.
Sukhu said that during the tenure of the previous BJP government, the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission, Hamirpur, had become the hub of corruption selling question papers. “Our government, taking prompt action, nabbed the culprits and put them behind bars,” he said.
He said that 6000 teachers will be recruited through this new commission soon. Along with this, 3000 Van Mitra will be recruited in the Forest Department and 1200 personnel in the police, who will work as a special task force to combat drug trafficking. He said that the state government was going to conduct more than 10,000 recruitments this year.
Constituted on October 6, 1998, the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission (HPSSC), Hamirpur was abolished on February 21 this year. Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena in a notification issued on February 21 had said that HPSSC was constituted with the objective that the initial recruitment to various Class-III services or posts, under the Government of Himachal Pradesh, except the posts excluded from its purview, shall be made on the advice of the Commission.
The notification stated that the acts of omissions & commission in the HPSSC, Hamirpur, did not only erode its credibility but also adversely affected the larger public interest. The Commission has not discharged its duties & responsibilities objectively, in a transparent manner as well as with due confidentiality to the detriment of the job aspirants, it added.
