CELTIC’S James Forrest came out from the cold in red hot form.
His double against Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday restored Brendan Rodgers’ side’s three-point lead at the top of the cinch Scottish Premiership after Rangers’ win over St Mirren.
Philippe Clement’s team momentarily went level at the summit with a lunchtime victory in Paisley, meaning it was over to the champions to increase their tally and superior goal difference come 3pm.
And it was the man who has so often been Celts’ hero who secured a crucial result in the title race.
Forrest started the match and bagged a goal in each half as the Parkhead club secured a narrow win on the road of their own.
And after the game, the humble 32-year-old had to be shoved in front of the travelling Celtic support by his manager during their traditional post-match celebrations.
Speaking after the game, he told Sky Sports: “It was massive. Every game just now is important for three points.
“Dundee have had a good season so it was massive to get the win,
“I’ve been pleased to make a contribution in the last few games, coming on as a sub.
“I am buzzing to start, get the goals and help the team. That’s the most important thing.
“We have some older boys who have been here for a while and if I can contribute on and off the pitch, I’ll be happy.
“Hopefully I can keep doing that in the last five games.”
Despite being open in his TV interview, Forrest’s former Celtic teammate Charlie Mulgrew says he is not one to take all the credit.
The ex-Aberdeen and Dundee United defender was on punditry duty for the broadcaster and described the full-time scenes as his old pal’s “worst nightmare” as the Hoops support sang Forrest’s name in the away end.
Mulgrew said: “This is his worst nightmare right now!
“He’s a quiet boy, he hates all that, he’s not on social media or nothing”.
“James just likes to go under the radar.”
