Unlike previous years, however, the 2024 awards are completely dominated by the same five front runners: all of them are nominated in the top categories of best picture, best director and best screenplay.
The nominees, announced by organisers on February 6, were chosen from a pool of 50 contending films released in 2023, up from the 33 released in 2022 that contended for nominations last year.
The winners of this year’s awards will be announced on April 14 at a ceremony at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
