Hong Kong rescuers search for missing solo hiker along trails in eastern New Territories
Emergency responders are searching for a man along hiking trails in Hong Kong’s eastern New Territories after he failed to return home from a solo trek.
The man’s wife contacted authorities at 7.40pm on Sunday and said her husband, 56, had gone hiking in Sai Kung in the morning but she was unable to contact him later in the day.
Police, the Fire Services Department and the Civil Aid Service dispatched search and rescue personnel to the area, while the Government Flying Service deployed a helicopter to conduct a sweep near Clear Water Bay Peninsula.
The man’s family have also shared missing person posts online that include security footage of when he left his home Kwong Ming Court in Tseung Kwan O at around 7.45am on Sunday.
He was last seen wearing a fluorescent yellow short sleeve shirt, black shorts, black shoes and carrying a backpack.
The family last heard from him at 11am on Sunday, when he sent photos and clips of his hike along the Lung Ha Wan Country Trail and as he passed Tai Leng Tung Viewing Point in Clear Water Bay Country Park.
The man had also told them he would return home between 2pm and 3pm.
Search efforts are ongoing.
