NEITHER Celtic or Rangers will feature at the newly-revamped Club World Cup which takes place in 2025.
The two clubs already knew their fate – despite the Light Blues’ early hopes before a rule change scrapped their chances – but the qualification rankings are now out, showing where the Glasgow sides sit.
While Rangers were tipped to make the cut before the drastic tweak to the qualification route was made, it’s actually their rivals Celtic who are ahead in the rankings table.
But Brendan Rodgers’ side are still way off from qualifying as they are placed 37th in the European table, with just 12 spots up for grabs.
Initially, the plans for qualification was based on clubs’ performance on the continental stage over a four-year period with the four last Champions League winners and eight teams with the best Uefa co-efficient.
Outwith the Champions League champions, numbers were supposedly going to be capped at only one club per country qualifying from a four-year Uefa coefficient list.

And with the Ibrox side’s heroics in the Europa League fresh in the memory, that left them clinging onto eighth spot.
But changes were made to ensure some of Europe‘s ‘bigger’ clubs would access the tournament to improve the overall spectacle.
It was decided the four-year coefficients would be based on Champions League results only, ending the Gers’ hopes of featuring.
Rangers have only featured in the elite competition for one season in the four-year period and it was a disastrous return for the club as they lost all SIX group games and took the unwanted crown for worst ever Champions League campaign.
It means they’re now second bottom of the rankings table in 62nd place, with just Besiktas below them.
The Light Blues have four points in total which is less than half of Celtic‘s return from their two seasons in the top tier.
Their only win came against Feyenoord in December but draws with Atletico Madrid, and Shakhtar Donetsk last season, puts them on 13 points in total.
