A not-so-humble Sydney baker has been crowned the home of the best finger bun in Australia.
The finger bun is an iconic Australian delicacy combining some of life’s greatest gifts: bread, icing and sometimes sprinkles.
Frequently sold at Baker’s Delight or Brumby’s, the timeless treat is a favourite among Aussie kids and adults alike.

Now, a popular Sydney bakery has been awarded for its gourmet take on the tasty treat — winning Wotif’s 2024 Uniquely Aussie Award for the best finger bun in the country.
Humble Bakery, which has outlets in Surry Hills and Circular Quay, was awarded the title for its bun featuring dried cranberries, golden raisins, currants and pink cream cheese frosting.
Humble Bakery co-owner Ben Milgate told 7NEWS.com.au he was excited to win and always knew the bakery’s finger buns were a cut above the rest.
“It’s great to see that our take on this nostalgic treat is loved enough to win,” Milgate said.
The secret to the bakery’s finger buns was the quality of its ingredients, Milgate said, as well as a change to the recipe.
“Our frosting is made with cream cheese which sets us apart from most other finger buns that use Boston icing,” he said.
“And of course, they’re made fresh daily with soft, sweet milk dough and have a slab of butter inside.”
Milgate said finger buns held a “special place” in Australian culture.
“Aussies love finger buns because they’re iconic and bring back childhood memories,” he said.
“They’re simple and satisfying — perfect for a quick treat or a bit of nostalgia.”
Australia’s best sausage roll, best surf club and best lookout were among the other categories voted on by more 1000 people for Wotif’s Uniquely Aussie Awards.
Wotif travel expert Rebecca Hurley said the awards were about highlighting Australia’s “unique gems”.
“The awards show Aussies are eager to share their local travel favourites,” she said.
“It is the classic sausage roll which caused the most debate, earning the title of the most voted category by Aussies.”
