I-Tax’s intel chief visits Bhopal for awareness campaign on E-Verification Scheme

Bhopal: Sunita Bainsla, Principal Director General of Income Tax (intelligence & criminal investigation), New Delhi, visited Bhopal on Friday to conduct an awareness campaign on the e-verification scheme 2021.
During her stay, she addressed a seminar, where she discussed the implementation and significance of the e-verification scheme.
As part of her visit, Bainsla took part in an outreach program on the e-verification scheme 2021, organized in collaboration with various professional associations such as the Chartered Accountants Association, Tax Law Bar Association, and Income Taxpayers Association, along with trade associations. During the program, Garima Chowdhary, Director of Income Tax (I&CI), Bhopal, provided a detailed explanation of the scheme.
Highlighting the scheme’s benefits and its relevance in current times, Bainsla emphasized how taxpayers can avail themselves of the advantages by understanding its provisions. She acknowledged the evolving nature of the department’s methodology, particularly in collecting information from various sources under Section 133(6) of the Income Tax Act 1961.
The collected information is then used to verify the genuineness of transactions, detect tax evasion, and match the filed income tax details for the relevant financial year.
Bainsla emphasized the importance of taxpayers updating their income tax return details under Section 139(8A) of the Income Tax Act 1961 if they believe that the notice issued to them under Section 133(6) contains incorrect information. By doing so, taxpayers can avoid scrutiny, prosecution, and unnecessary inconveniences. She highlighted this as a golden opportunity for all taxpayers to rectify any discrepancies and benefit from the scheme.
The Principal Director General effectively presented the scheme’s intricacies to the attendees, who comprehended its significance and implications. The office bearers of various organizations present actively participated in the program and understood the importance of compliance. Discussions were held with the office bearers to address their concerns and suggest solutions.
The outreach program concluded on a successful note, with the expectation that taxpayer compliance will increase, leading to widespread benefits from the scheme. The event was attended by officials from the Income Tax Department and representatives from various organizations in Bhopal.
