The International Court of Justice on Friday ordered Israel to prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Reading the decision on provisional measures, the court’s president, Judge Joan Donoghue, said, “the State of Israel shall in accordance with its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, in relation to the Palestinians in Gaza, take all measures within its power to prevent the commission of all acts within the scope of Article Two of the convention.”
Article two of the Genocide Convention defines genocide as any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religions group, as such: Killing members of the group; Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

The court listed in particular, killing members of a group, causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part and imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group, as acts Israel must prevent against.
The court reminded parties to the case that the ruling creates international legal obligations on Israel.
