IIM Vizag observes late Vani Row’s birth anniversary

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indian Institute of ManagementVisakhapatnam (IIMV) paid rich tributes to the late Vani Row, daughter of the distinguished scientist and philanthropist Dr BRL Row, on her birth anniversary. Vani was a prominent consultant and investment banker known globally for her achievements. The Vani Row Memorial address took place at the permanent campus of IIMV. Vani Row, an alumna of IIM Ahmedabad, made a significant impact as a successful consultant and investment banker in India and the USA before her untimely demise. In the honour of his daughter, Dr BRL Row generously donated Rs 2 crore to IIM Visakhapatnam to establish an incubation centre for budding entrepreneurs.

The event was attended by faculty, staff, and students. IIMB alumna Dr Nalini Guhesh delivered the Vani Row Memorial lecture, sharing her anecdotes and experience from the workplace. She emphasised the importance of continuous learning and building a team with effective communication skills. She added that apart from the core skills, one should learn extra expertise in an area where they struggle so that it might be beneficial with respect to future challenges at the workplace.
Dr BRL Row expressed delight in hearing accolades about his daughter shared by the Vani Row Gold Medal recipients. He emphasised his commitment to ensuring that students, particularly women, access quality education. He highlighted the challenges of women’s representation in educational institutions and the persisting obstacles due to social conditions and family concern which needs to be overcome.

Dean (administration) Prof MV Anuradha expressed gratitude towards Dr BRL Row and his commitment to encouraging women’s academic participation. She added that the institute is looking forward to the incubation centre named after Vani Row, which in the future will be a source that provides support functions, mentorship, and resources to future entrepreneurs.
IIMV Director Prof M Chandrasekhar highlighted Vani’s remarkable accomplishments, underscoring her influence as a role model for future generations. He thanked Dr BRL Row for continuously supporting and gracing the event each year with his valuable presence. He urged all the students at the event to take up learning and co-curricular activities in the institute for overall holistic development.
During the event, Divya Yadav, Pallavi Bansal, and Prapti Alok, the Vani Row Gold medal recipients, shared their perspectives on being a medallist of the prestigious award. All of them expressed gratitude towards Dr BRL Row and his commitment. They added that this award is a source of inspiration and needs to be carried out as a legacy.
Coordinator (academics and research) Prof Shivshanker Singh Patel also spoke on this occasion.
