IIT placements 2023: From crore-plus offers to international success, campuses witness variety of achievements

MUMBAI: The placement season at the Indian Institutes of Technology saw the crore plus offers coming from investment banks and high frequency trading firms. International offer numbers were similar to last year, with most IITs closing day one with less than 20 foreign posting.
At the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, four students got crore plus offers which came from Samsung, Korea.In addition, day one saw Qualcomm picking up more than 20 students. The telecom major is at the Powai campus for multiple roles and salary offered ranges from Rs 60-Rs 80 lakh. “But the crore plus offers are fewer this year,” said a student. At the time of going to press, IITB had place 193 students as compared to 183 last year.
IIT Guwahati has received as many as 11 offers that are Rs 1 crore plus package as compared to seven in the 2022-2023 session.
A student at IIT-Roorkee bagged an offer of Rs 2.05 crore from the US-based software firm Databricks. The software giant hired only one student from the campus, which also was the highest package at the institute so far. At least three students from the institute bagged international offers. Till 4 pm on Saturday, the institute had about 440 offers, including the pre-placement offers (PPO). On the second day, around 30 companies visited the campus till evening. Barclays, Accenture, Samsung Semiconductor, Schlumberger software, Qualcomm, are some of the companies that visited the institute.
International offers to students stood at 19 for the current placement drive 2023-24 for day 1 at IIT Kharagpur. Last year PPO was 573, and this year, they are fewer at 441. By day 1 end, total offers stood at 771, higher than last year’s 761. More than 61 companies offered various roles to our students mainly in the profile of software, analytics, finance–banking, consulting and core engineering which includes the Pre-placement offers from Apple, Arthur D.Little, Da Vinci, Capital One, DE Shaw, EXL Services, Glean, Google, Graviton, Microsoft, Mckinsey, Quantbox, Databricks, Square point, TSM, Palo Alto and many more companies which participated in round one of the placement process. More than 121 profiles have been opened for the students who have received more than 19 international offers with 6 students being offered more than INR 1 Crore CTC on the first day of the placement drive.
“Even when the current placement season is slow, IIT Kharagpur standing tall with more than 700 offers on the first day of placement drive, is itself a manifestation of the testimony for producing quality individuals and providing excellence in education,” said IIT Kharagpur director V K Tiwari.
By the end of day one of placements at IIT-Delhi, 480 offers were bagged by students, including PPOs, of these 450 were unique selections. Over 360 national and international organisations have registered for the placements this year at the campus, and have over 660 job profiles across multiple sectors, said a statement released by the institute. Top recruiters on the campus on Day 1 in terms of the total numbers of jobs were Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, and Texas Instruments. Sources claimed Microsoft hired 18 students from the campus, much higher than last year. Hiring processes at the campus are conducted in both virtual and physical modes. R Ayothiraman, professor in-charge, Office of Career Services, in a statement, said, “…the office is working to maximize placement of the students who avail our services. We have a healthy mix and line up of companies across sectors to cater to the varied needs and aspirations of our student body. In a disclaimer, the institute mentioned that they have decided not to mention high-value packages.
