I’m a Celtic fan who is ranked in the world’s top five for my sport – I’d love to return to Parkhead as world champion

JAYSON SHAW would love to parade the World Pool Championship trophy at his beloved Celtic Park.

Scotland’s best nineball player opened up his campaign tonight with a 9-4 win over Jefrey Roda in the first round of the $1million event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The 35-year-old Mosconi Cup star fancies his chances in the six-day, 128-player tournament.

And he already has visions of what he’d do to celebrate if he goes all the way and scoops the record $250,000 top prize.

Shaw, who was born in Glasgow but lives in the USA, told SunSport: “I’m a winner. I have come here to win. I’m one of the favourites. The more pressure the better.

“If I can win the World Championship, it would be amazing to go back to my home town.

“I’m sure I could get to go to Celtic Park and parade the trophy. That would be really cool.

“I have been a Celtic supporter since I was a little boy. I had season tickets when I lived in Scotland.

“I saw when John Higgins won the snooker World Championship, he got to go to Celtic Park.

“It would be an amazing feeling. To do it this week with my wife and two kids with me would be so special.

“I’ve tried to take my kids to a couple of games, but it’s always been Celtic v Rangers on the agenda. It’s not a game to take them to! Maybe Celtic v Motherwell.”

Meanwhile, Hoops kid Bosun Lawal has been promoted to the senior Republic of Ireland squad for tonight’s friendly against Hungary.

I’m a snooker world champion and huge Celtic fan – my Hoops star mate even got my match CANCELLED so I could go to game

The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Fleetwood, has been called up by John O’Shea.

Lawal, with ten Under-21 caps, joins Liam Scales, Adam Idah and Mikey Johnston in the squad.

Interim-boss O’Shea said: “Bosun is a strong lad, but we have seen the delicate touches from him. He can glide past players.

“He’s really exciting, but he has to keep developing and after Fleetwood he will go back and see what happens at Celtic.”
