I’m a former paramedic and this is exactly what we wish everyone calling triple-0 knew

A former Aussie paramedic and mum has revealed a list of what she says paramedics wish everyone knew when calling triple-0 in the event of an emergency.

Nikki Jurcutz, who is now CEO of the parenting and health organisation Tiny Hearts Education, shared in a now-viral video the six things of which she wanted people to be aware when calling for an ambulance.

The CEO posted the video to the Tiny Hearts Education Instagram page where she frequently shares health advice and parenting tips.

Nikki said firstly paramedics “would always rather come and leave than be too late, so please call us”.

Next on the paramedics’ list was to “please unlock the door, turn the outside light on and have someone to wave us down if possible”.

“We often leave the door open, for our safety, please just help us with this and keep it open,” she explained.

Nikki recommends that parents listen to their intuition and follow their gut when it comes to their child’s health.

“You know your child best, if you are worried, we are worried,” the CEO and mum said.

The ex-paramedic also said the last thing paramedics were thinking about was what your house looked like.

“We don’t care what your house looks like, please stop apologising,” she said.

Lastly, Nikki reminded viewers “ambulances are for life-threatening and time-critical emergencies”.

Nikki’s video received more than 180,000 views, and people in the comments praised her advice as well as their own experiences with paramedics.

“Is there a way to pass onto the paramedics how much we love them and how they’re amazing and we can never thank them enough?” asked one.

“Thank you to all the paramedics for doing such an incredible job,” another said.

“You guys are the best, always posting really informative and quality content,” added a second.

“This is amazing,” a third said.

“Every paramedic I have ever met is an angel,” added another.
