Immortals of Aveum: PC performance tested and the best settings to use

Immortals of Aveum has me questioning whether there is a large market for extravagant magic shooters with cheesy dialogue and high PC hardware requirements. With games like Forspoken and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on the horizon, I wouldn’t be surprised if Captain Price started shooting laser beams from his mustache. Immortals of Aveum is a visually stunning game that demands a lot from your PC, especially if you don’t have top-of-the-line hardware. It is one of the first games to use Unreal Engine 5.1 and takes full advantage of its new lighting and visual effects technology. However, in order to achieve playable performance on lower-end and older mid-range systems, you will have to sacrifice quality settings. DLSS and FSR 2 can help, but like Remnant II, Immortals of Aveum is a demanding game that requires these upscalers to be activated for optimal gameplay. After extensive testing, I have compiled a settings guide that should help maintain a smooth framerate.

In terms of system requirements, Immortals of Aveum sets a high bar. Even the minimum requirement for low-quality 1080p gameplay calls for a GeForce RTX 2080 Super, and an RTX 3080 Ti is only just enough for 1440p when paired with an AMD Ryzen 5700X. These are not typos, and while it is possible to play Immortals of Aveum on less powerful hardware (such as the budget-friendly Intel Arc A750), older rigs may struggle to run the game smoothly. Here are the full specifications:

– Low PC Specs (1080p / 60fps): AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT / Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X / Intel Core i7-9700, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 (Windows 11 recommended for Intel 12th and 13th Gen CPUs), 70GB storage (SSD recommended).

– Medium PC Specs (1440p / 60fps): AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT / Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X / Intel Core i7-12700K, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 (Windows 11 recommended for Intel 12th and 13th Gen CPUs), 70GB storage (SSD recommended).

– High PC Specs (4K / 60fps): AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT / Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X / Intel Core i7-12700K, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 (Windows 11 recommended for Intel 12th and 13th Gen CPUs), 70GB storage (SSD recommended).

– Ultra PC Specs (4K / 120fps): AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX / Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D / Intel Core i9-13900KS, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 (Windows 11 recommended for Intel 12th and 13th Gen CPUs), 70GB storage (SSD recommended).

Based on my testing, these requirements are fairly accurate. While I was able to achieve playable framerates with a Core i5-11600K and an RTX 2080 Ti, benchmark runs at 1080p with all-low settings averaged around 67fps, while all-ultra settings averaged around 55fps. This suggests that the RTX 2080 Super should be able to achieve around 60fps on lower settings (or ultra with upscaling). Other high-end graphics cards, including newer models, performed below expectations. For example, the RTX 3070 only managed 56fps at ultra-quality 1080p and needed DLSS on balanced mode to reach 67fps at 1440p. The RTX 4070 Ti, which can handle most games at maxed-out 4K, struggled to maintain 34fps at native 1440p on ultra quality. Older PCs may not meet the minimum requirements, with the GTX 1060 struggling to maintain 30fps at 1080p even on low settings and with FSR on performance mode. The Intel Arc A750 is the most basic GPU that can potentially handle the game, but it requires low settings and FSR on balanced mode to maintain above 30fps. Even the RTX 4060, despite its newer release and lower price, couldn’t maintain a steady 60fps on ultra quality at 1080p, averaging 49fps instead. While high settings improved performance to 57fps and low settings to 67fps, these results may not be considered satisfactory.

In terms of visuals, Immortals of Aveum offers impressive wizard fights with dense and flamboyant magical effects. However, these encounters can also suffer from performance issues, including stuttering and occasional crashes. There have also been reports of flickering shadows and textures, although these seem to be less common after the day 1 patch. Additionally, the game’s implementation of DLSS 3, which is exclusive to RTX 40-series cards, is flawed. The AI-generated frames often have imperfections that result in flashing afterimages and make aiming difficult. Furthermore, Immortals of Aveum requires DLSS upscaling to be enabled alongside frame generation, limiting the flexibility of DLSS 3. Other games allow these features to be toggled separately, but Immortals of Aveum does not.

Unfortunately, playing Immortals of Aveum on the Steam Deck is not recommended. Even with all graphics settings on low and FSR 2 on its fastest Ultra Performance mode, Valve’s handheld device struggles to maintain a consistent 30fps. According to the official Steam Deck compatibility guide, the game is considered unsupported on this platform.

If you are playing on a powerful PC, you can improve performance by adjusting individual graphics settings in Immortals of Aveum. The game does not offer presets, but you can manually switch settings to low, high, or ultra. Additionally, there is a Performance Budget Tool that assigns a points value to each setting based on its impact on performance. The tool compares the total points of your selected configuration to the performance budgets of your CPU and GPU, warning you if they are exceeded. While this tool is a clever concept, it may not be entirely accurate in practice and may lead to unnecessary settings cuts. Overall, Immortals of Aveum is a visually appealing game, but it comes with demanding hardware requirements and has some performance and graphical issues that players should be aware of.
