Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Interview

Indiana Jones is set to star in a new video game for current-generation consoles. The game, titled Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, was teased in 2021 and has now been fully unveiled with a new trailer. It will be available later this year on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass, marking the first Indy game in years and generating significant anticipation among fans.

Developed by Bethesda’s MachineGames studio, The Great Circle is set in 1937, between Raiders and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The game will feature first-person action and adventure gameplay, with the trailer showcasing a spider-crawling, whip-wielding, and plane-hopping experience. Game director Jerk Gustafsson discussed the opportunity to create The Great Circle and bringing Indy’s iconic weapon to gaming in an interview with Lucasfilm.com.

Lucasfilm.com: Fans have been asking for a new Indy game for years, and one that could take advantage of modern technology. Can you talk about getting the opportunity to create that game, and the challenge that comes with it?

Jerk Gustafsson: Many of us at MachineGames were deeply influenced by Raiders of the Lost Ark and the opportunity to work on this game was mind-blowing. We aimed to bring Indiana Jones to modern gaming while capturing the mood and style of the 1980s movies.

Lucasfilm.com: The gameplay looks amazing. How did you approach bringing that Indy-esque sense of action and adventure into the video game form?

Jerk Gustafsson: Our gameplay philosophy is based on Indy’s character, focusing on realism and a sense of dread. We aim to provide an immersive experience that makes players feel like expert archaeologists on an adventure.

Lucasfilm.com: Finally, are there snakes?

Jerk Gustafsson: Of course — we love snakes. We are game developers, not as easily scared as adventure heroes!
