The Indiana women’s basketball team has suffered defeats in two of its last five games leading up to tonight’s game against Iowa and Caitlin Clark.
No. 16 IU (21-4, 12-3 Big Ten) is coming off an 86-66 loss to Illinois, while No. 4 Iowa boasts a record of 23-3 overall and 11-1 in conference play. In their previous meeting, Iowa defeated the Hoosiers 84-57 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.

Iowa narrowed IU’s lead to 9 points on a couple of occasions. Chloe Moore-McNeil’s free throw at 2:26 made it 78-68.
Sara Scalia’s crucial 3-pointer at 2:06 extended the Hoosiers’ lead to 13 points. Mackenzie Holmes’ layup at 1:31 further increased the lead to 15 points.
Caitlin Clark had an impressive performance with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists, but the Hawkeyes struggled with just a 19% success rate on 3-point attempts.
Scalia led all scorers with 25 points. Mackenzie Holmes contributed 24 points and 9 rebounds, while Yarden Garzon chipped in with 15 points.

Yarden Garzon drove IU’s 9-2 run at the start of the fourth quarter, adding 5 points during that stretch.
Indiana 71, Iowa 58
Addison O’Grady’s layup reduced IU’s lead to 59-49 with 2:50 remaining in the period. Shortly after, O’Grady scored another layup to bring the score to 59-51.
At 1:09, Chloe Moore-McNeil sunk a 3-pointer for IU, countered by Iowa’s Gabbie Marshall’s 3-pointer on the next possession.
Indiana 62, Iowa 54
Iowa cut IU’s lead to 11 at 5:08, but then Sydney Parrish hit consecutive 3-pointers, igniting the crowd.
Indiana 59, Iowa 46
Indiana started the third quarter with a 5-0 run. Scalia and Holmes each made shots, building IU’s largest lead of the game.
Indiana 49, Iowa 33
Scalia’s free throws extended IU’s lead to 37-27 at 3:15. In a separate play, Garzon missed a shot, but Parrish retrieved the rebound and set up Garzon for a basket, drawing a foul on the play. Garzon missed the subsequent free throw.
Caitlin Clark’s 3-pointer at 2:04 increased her total to 20 points. Garzon contributed with an additional 3-pointer at the 0:37 mark, totaling 8 points.
The Hawkeyes only managed to score 11 points in that quarter.
Indiana 44, Iowa 33
Garzon kicked off the new quarter with a 3-pointer at 9:11. Clark responded with a 3-pointer of her own at 7:56 to cut IU’s lead to 28-25, but Lexus Bargesser answered with a layup.
Holmes had 10 points and 5 rebounds, while Clark contributed 16 points and 6 rebounds.
Indiana 30, Iowa 27
Iowa embarked on a 7-0 run that was interrupted by Holmes’ layup.
At the :28 mark, IU regained the lead when Julianna LaMendola scored a layup, making it 21-20 in favor of the Hoosiers. Clark then made two consecutive free throws to give the lead back to the Hawkeyes.
Bargesser’s jumper at the buzzer handed IU the lead at the end of the quarter.
Indiana 23, Iowa 22
Clark is 1 for 2 from 3-point range with 7 points. Scalia leads IU with 8 points, including two successful 3-pointers.

The Indiana Fever possesses the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, potentially securing Caitlin Clark if she decides to turn pro.
Parrish suffered a foot injury in January.
