CCOO, the convening union, demanded “real progress” at the doors of eight Zara stores in Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Vigo, Seville, Bilbao, and Las Palmas on Friday, aiming for national negotiations “to fairly and equitably enhance working conditions across brands and territories, following the record profits achieved by Inditex in 2023.”

Sources from this union estimate that 500 delegates gathered and mobilized in the mentioned cities, further claiming to have collected 13,843 signatures in just seven days, from March 15 to 21, representing 50.94% of the Inditex group’s workforce according to their calculations.

The mobilizations did not halt the activity of Zara stores in the most central locations of the capitals.

CCOO requested dialogue with the company, prompting an immediate response from Inditex.

Simultaneously, the union also anticipates the possibility of crafting a nationwide agreement for the textile sector in meetings with the Arte employers’ association, to which Inditex belongs.

The sector, with Inditex being no exception, is comprised of a broad spectrum of provincial agreements that hinder the generalization of agreements across the entire workforce in Spain.

Regarding this, the CCOO spokesperson stated their disinterest in provincial agreements at Inditex, given its status as a multinational corporation with a “willingness to reach agreements.”

Inditex recorded profits of 5.38 billion euros in 2023, a 30% increase compared to the previous year, with figures exceeding 1.6 billion euros in Spain alone.
