A mysterious metal object has washed ashore on an Australian beach, sparking an investigation involving police and maritime partners.
WA Police were alerted to the cylinder item’s appearance on a beach near Green Head in Western Australia’s Mid West Coast on Sunday afternoon after it was spotted by a community member.
“An item has washed up on the beach near Green Head,” police said.
“At this time Water Police are trying to identify type and origin of the item.”

The object appears to be made of metal, standing at least two metres in height.
It also seems to have cables or wires hanging from the top.
While it has been reported that WA Police are liaising with the Australian Defence Force in the investigation, police said they “cannot confirm” whether military departments were involved.
“Officers are liaising with national maritime partners to identify the item,” a police spokesperson said.

This comes three weeks after another mysterious device was found floating offshore close to North Beach in Perth.
According to The West Australian, Australian Defence Force personnel detonated the device which was later found to be a marker marine flare.
As of Monday morning WA Police said they were unable to confirm any other details regarding the metal cylinder.
