IPPs played a big role in ridding SA of load shedding, says Ramaphosa

“We have been working closely with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), contributing to the reduction of the severity of load shedding,” the president tells members of Parliament (MPs).

Many communities in South Africa have, however, been experiencing load reduction, which is different from load shedding.

“Rapid economic growth” is the Presidency’s main objective for the next five years, says Ramaphosa.

“The Presidency bears the responsibility of leading the work of government,” says Ramaphosa.

The Presidency has been a super ministry in recent time. It controls the country’s intelligence after the State Security Agency’s functions were absorbed into it.

The country’s climate action and the anti-corruption advisory bodyes also work from the Presidency.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is delivering his first budget address for the Presidency in the seventh administration, in front of members of Parliament. This will lay the foundation for the Presidency’s spending in the 2024-2025 financial year.

On Monday, Ramaphosa responded to the parliamentary debate on his Opening of Parliament Address, where he outlined moves to unlock economic growth, tackle crime, and solidarity with the people of Western Sahara, Cuba and Palestine, among other issues.

Ramaphosa also gave special attention to Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema, saying Malema was politically illiterate about pre-1994 trade union formations such as the National Union of Mineworkers.
