Hollywood actor Jack Black has revealed why he won’t be coming to Perth when he tours with his rock band Tenacious D this year.
The A-lister makes up one half of the rock duo alongside guitarist Kyle Gass and the pair are set to return to Australia in July for the first time in more than a decade.
Tenacious D will play five arena shows in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide—leaving Perth off their itinerary.
It’s a sight all to familiar to Perth music fans who often miss out on international acts due to being so far away on the west side of Australia.
Black sat down with Mix94.5 Breakfast’s Kymba Cahill in Sydney as he promoted the release of Kung Fu Panda 4.
On why he isn’t coming to Perth with Tenacious D on his tour: “I just got this tour schedule proposed to us.”
“I’m going to throw the promoter under the bus, I don’t know why we aren’t playing Perth. Next Time.
“(Perth is) the resting place of Bon Scott, greatest lead singer of all time!”
The fourth instalment in the animated series, which has been around since the first movie in 2008, is screening in Perth cinemas now.
Black voices the main character Po the panda, but he told Kymba his spiritual animal would actually be something different.
“You know it’s a funny question because there’s your favourite animal and for me, it would be the cheetah,” he said.
“Because they’re so fast and just incredibly graceful and amazing to look at in slow-mo when they’re stalking their prey. But then there’s your actual animal that really embodies who you really are. I feel like those are two different animals.
“My real animal is probably like a chipmunk or a squirrel!”
The star, who is excited to be coming back Down Under, was shocked at looking at a map of the California state when compared to the whole of Australia.
“That really puts it in perspective. I never really thought about how huge Australia is. Good lord, its almost the size of the United States,” he said.
He might even get his hands on another Vegemite sandwich, which he is surprisingly dreaming of.
“Vegemite – I try to eat it every meal! No, not true. I did try it once and I thought it was a little salty,” he said.
“I’d like to try another Vegemite sandwich.”
