After the JEE Main 2024 Paper 1 forenoon session concluded, students shared their immediate reactions with the Times of India.Most engineering aspirants agreed that the JEE Mains Paper 1 exam was neither hard nor easy, it was of moderate difficulty level.
- The reporting time for students was 7:20 AM, however, the exam started sharp at 9:00 AM.
- Candidates were strictly prohibited from bringing instruments/geometry/pencil boxes, handbags, purses, any paper/stationery/textual material (printed or written), food and water (loose or packed), mobile phones, earphones, microphones, pagers, calculators, slide rules, log tables, cameras, tape recorders, or wearing/carrying any type of watch, including electronic watches with calculator features, metallic items, or electronic gadgets/devices into the Examination Hall/Room.
- Students reported that entry started as soon as they were screened at the entry point.
- This time, candidates appearing for JEE Main 2024 will have to undergo frisking and biometric attendance after toilet breaks as well.
- Time Clock on computer screen was provided inside the examination hall.
Immediate Reactions from Students about Paper 1 (Morning Session on Jan 27, 2024) of JEE Main:
► There were total 90*questions and total marks of JEE Main Paper-1 was 300. (*5 out of 10 questions were to be attempted from Numerical Based section in each subject).
► The paper had three parts & each part had two sections:
Part-I: Physics
Physics had total 30*questions – Sec-I had 20 Multiple choice questions with Single correct answers & Sec-II had 10 Numerical based questions out which only 5 had to be attempted. Marking scheme for multiple choice questions was +4 for correct response, -1 for incorrect response, 0 if not attempted. Marking scheme for numerical based questions was +4 for correct response and 0 in all other cases. Total marks of this section were 100.
Part-II: Chemistry
Chemistry had total 30*questions – Sec-I had 20 Multiple choice questions with Single correct answers & Sec-II had 10 Numerical based questions out which only 5 had to be attempted. Marking scheme for multiple choice questions was +4 for correct response, -1 for incorrect response, 0 if not attempted. Marking scheme for numerical based questions was +4 for correct response, -1 for incorrect response and 0 in all other cases. Total marks of this section were 100.
Part-III: Mathematics
Mathematics had total 30*questions – Sec-I had 20 Multiple choice questions with Single correct answers & Sec-II had 10 Numerical based questions out which only 5 had to be attempted. Marking scheme for multiple choice questions was +4 for correct response, -1 for incorrect response, 0 if not attempted. Marking scheme for numerical based questions was +4 for correct response, -1 for incorrect response and 0 in all other cases. Total marks of this section were 100.
► Questions covered almost all chapters of Class XI & XII CBSE Board. Students felt more weightage given to Class XII Chapters in Physics & Maths.
► The level of difficulty as per feedback from students on 27th Jan ,2024 (Forenoon Session).

Analysis of B.E./B.Tech. (Paper 1):
Mathematics: Moderate. Questions were asked from all chapters with emphasis on Chapters of Algebra & Calculus. Questions asked from Matrices, Determinants, 3 D Geometry, Vectors, Permutation & Combination, Binomial Theorem, Complex Numbers, Statistics, Progressions, Quadratic Equations, Function, Limits, Continuity & Differentiability, Definite Integrals, Differential Equations, Area, Circle & Parabola. The Numerical Section had lengthy calculations. A few questions were reported as Lengthy &Tricky.
Physics: Easy. Questions asked from Electrostatics, Magnetism, Ray Optics, Capacitance, Current Electricity & Modern Physics, SHM, Laws of Motion, Semiconductors, Rotational Motion, Kinematics, Heat & Thermodynamics. Numerical based questions were easy. Few fact-based questions from class XII chapters of NCERT were also asked. Students felt more weightage given to XII Class chapters.
Chemistry: Easy to Moderate. Organic Chemistry was given more weightage compared to Physical & Inorganic Chemistry. Questions asked from Coordination Compounds, Atomic Structure, Chemical Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, General Organic Chemistry, Biomolecules, Amines, Electrochemistry, Mole Concept, Phenols, Aryl & Alkyl halides.
In terms of order of Difficulty – Mathematics was Moderate while Physics was Easy Overall, this paper was of Moderate level as per students.
► Students were given a booklet for rough work.
► There was tight invigilation as per students.
► No errors were reported in the question papers.
