NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday announced the JEE Mains Result 2024 for the first session. Candidates who have appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination Main 2024 Session 1 can download their JEE Main Scorecard 2024 from the official website at https://jeemain.nta.ac.in/.
However, some students have alleged that there is a difference in their JEE Main marks and percentile predictions. These students have taken to the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) to express their concerns over the error in percentile calculation of JEE Mains 2024 result.
While raising the concern over percentile calculation, an aspirant wrote, “This percentile calculation has raised serious concerns and disappointment among the students. With 126 marks in 29th Jan session 2, one has got 90 percentile while the expectation with 126 marks was somewhere around 97 percentile.”
Another candidate wrote, “Recheck the percentile for jee mains 27th shift 1 ,shift 2 and 29th shift 1. This is unfair for the hardworking students who got above 200 still not getting 99%ile.”
A father of a JEE Main candidate took to X and wrote, “My son scored 275 marks in the JEE Mains Session 1 Jan 27 Shift 1 exam, but his %tile was only 99.87. I’m uncertain about the percentile calculation method used by @NTA_Exams. He achieved a perfect 100 %tile in Math, with just 1 incorrect answer in Physics and 4 in Chemistry.”
“Please share Approved Procedure/Methodology of Calculation of Percentile from Marks scored across different Shifts in Session I of JEE MAINS 2024,” said another student.
What is JEE Main percentile score?
Percentile scores reflect the relative performance of all students who appear in the examination. Marks achieved are converted into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of candidates.
How to calculate JEE Mains percentile?
The JEE Main 2024 percentile is determined by the formula: (100 x number of candidates with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate) / total number of candidates in that session.
The NTA has adopted a normalisation technique for computing JEE Main 2024 scores, given the exam’s multiple shifts and sessions. This method was introduced to ensure that candidates are not unfairly advantaged or disadvantaged by variations in difficulty levels across shifts. A total of 12,25,529 students participated in both JEE Mains Paper 1 and 2, with 11,70,036 taking the Paper 1 (BE and BTech).
