Jeep Cherokee Golden Hawk Brings 1980s Style Into The Modern World

JeepHeritage, a company from Texas focused on restoring and modifying classic Jeeps, has just completed work on what is now one of the very finest 1980s Cherokee you’re likely to ever lay eyes on. Perhaps what’s most impressive about this build is how much of the Jeep remains original and has simply been refreshed, rather than parts being removed and replaced with newer ones.

The Cherokee in question is a 1980 ‘Golden Hawk’ model. For those that don’t know, the Golden Hawk was one of the many trim levels offered on the Cherokee back in the 80s. It is primarily differentiated from other versions of the time thanks to a unique graphics package so those behind this restoration were keen to retain these iconic graphics.

In overhauling the SUV, the body was completely removed and the frame was thoroughly restored down to the fitment of new nuts and bolts. Jeepheritage then stripped back the original bodywork, sprayed it with rust protection, and repainted it in the original color scheme, combining the gold graphics with the Bordeaux Metallic paint. The chassis has also been restored and powder-coated.

Upgrades have also been made to the original AMC 360 engine as it ditches the carburetors and now rocks a modern multipoint fuel-injection system. The axles, transfer case, and transmission have also been rebuilt to give the SUV a more refined and polished feel. Brake technology has come a long way since 1980 so Jeepheritage has also fitted new discs and calipers at all four corners. A custom stainless steel exhaust will also help to ensure the engine can operate without restriction and should add a nice new soundtrack to the Cherokee.

Extensive work has also been done to the cabin of the Golden Hawk. Sitting in place of the original vinyl materials is plush leather and Levis fabric. It also features new wiring, glass, window actuators, an updated gauge cluster, and a new radio.

This very SUV is currently up for sale, although Jeepheritage hasn’t said how much it is asking for.
