Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis pleaded guilty on Tuesday in the Georgia election subversion case and will cooperate with Fulton County prosecutors. Ellis pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting false statements, a felony related to the election lies propagated by Ellis and other Trump lawyers in December 2020. She received five years of probation and was ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution. Ellis expressed remorse for her participation in Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election and stated that she would have declined to represent him if she knew then what she knows now. This guilty plea follows similar pleas from former Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro. These plea deals are significant for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who charged the case and is preparing for trials against Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and other top figures. Ellis, Chesebro, and Powell have agreed to testify on behalf of the prosecution at future trials. Ellis admitted to aiding Giuliani and another Trump lawyer, Ray Smith, in making false statements to Georgia Senate members regarding voter fraud. These false statements included baseless claims of massive fraud involving mail-in ballots, illegal votes from felons and minors, and votes from deceased individuals, all of which were found to be untrue. In exchange for her cooperation, prosecutors dropped two of Ellis’ original charges, including a violation of Georgia’s racketeering law. Ellis is also banned from posting about the case on social media during the proceedings. In unrelated disciplinary proceedings in Colorado, Ellis admitted to making false post-election statements, resulting in a censure and a $224 fine. She is no longer associated with Trump and has publicly supported Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
