Jennifer Lopez’s divorce filing from Ben Affleck was four months in the making.
When the singer, 55, filed paperwork to end her marriage to the “Justice League” actor, 52, on Tuesday, she also listed the official date that they split.
According to Lopez, the couple separated on April 26, 2024.
The mom of two was photographed in New York City that day.
She stepped out in a beige sweater with big sunglasses and gold hoop earrings. She carried a black purse with her during the outing.
After the divorce filing, a source told PEOPLE of Lopez, “She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken.”
Ten days after the couple’s separation date, Lopez attended the 2024 Met Gala in NYC alone, which sparked the rumors that they were on the rocks.
Before that, the last time they had been seen together was on March 30, 2024 in New York City.
The next time the “Gigli” co-stars were photographed together was 47 days later on May 16, 2024. They both attended an event in Los Angeles to support one of their kids, though they arrived separately. Both stars were wearing their wedding rings during the outing.
But by that time, it was reported that Affleck was staying at a separate house from Lopez, who was seen house hunting without her husband.
On May 20, a Page Six report claimed that the “Argo” director had “come to his senses” about his failing marriage to Lopez.
“If there was a way to divorce on grounds of temporary insanity, he would,” the insider alleged. “He feels like the last two years was just a fever dream, and he’s come to his senses now and understands there is just no way this is going to work.”
As the divorce rumors persisted, both Lopez and Affleck avoided talking about the state of their marriage.
Lopez even dodged a reporter’s direct question about her marital issues at a press conference for her Netflix movie “Atlas” in Mexico City on May 22.
“You know better than that,” she bluntly told the reporter.
Once the summer officially began, Lopez and Affleck continued to spend time apart from each other.
Lopez traveled to Italy and France and then spent the Fourth of July weekend in the Hamptons, while her husband stayed home in LA. They were also apart for Lopez’s “Bridgerton”-themed 55th birthday party and the second anniversary of their Las Vegas wedding, both in July.
The A-listers officially listed their $60 million Beverly Hills marital home for sale in mid-July.
Later that month, Affleck bought a $20.5 million Los Angeles mansion for himself.
On Aug. 5, TMZ reported that Lopez and Affleck were no longer speaking in person or over the phone.
The outlet also reported that the pair were using their business managers to figure out the finances of their divorce, rather than hiring lawyers.
One week before Lopez filed for divorce, the “Hustlers” actress reunited with Affleck at his rental home in LA on August 11.
Lopez also visited Affleck at his house on his 52nd birthday on August 15, for what was seemingly one of their last rendezvous before the divorce filing. She later was spotted dancing to Bruno Mars’ “Marry You” at his LA concert.
Lopez and Affleck were initially together from 2002 to 2004.
They ended their engagement in January 2004 after delaying their wedding “due to the excessive media attention” that surrounded the couple at the time.
Following the breakup, they went on to marry and have kids with other partners, before they reconciled in 2021. They married in July 2022 in Las Vegas after a three-month engagement and later staged a more elaborate ceremony in Georgia.
