Jess Mauboy tells of ‘playing a little bit dirty’ on The Voice during Logie Awards red carpet appearance

Singer Jess Mauboy says she’s planning on playing things “a little bit dirty” on the new season of The Voice Australia.

Speaking to 7Life on the Logies red carpet on Sunday night, Jess talked about her new tactics on the show, recording with fellow superstar coach Jason Derulo, and getting loose on the dance floor at the Logies after-party.

Determined to make this year’s The Voice winner a Jess Mauboy-coached talent, she said, “I’ve really come to play a game this year.

“I’m a kind of coach this year where I am playing maybe a little bit dirty, you know, you gotta switch it up sometimes to get what you want and what you need.”

“But all, all in, all in good, good, you know, good ways,” she added, laughing.

Apart from appearing on The Voice with new coach Jason Derulo, the two stars are recording music together.

“This is his first season on the Australian Voice and it’s just been kind of groovy and fun,” he said.

“We’re recording music, we’re feeling good about it.

“We’ve actually seen a whole other side of Jason, which is really nice, a much deeper version of what we normally see in his music videos and his very colourful kind of personality.

“It’s been a real buzz this year and the talent has just really shown up.”

Asked what she was wearing on the Logies red carpet, Jess raved about her shimmering black gown with dramatic white cuffs and keyhole neckline.

“I just wanted something fitting on the body, almost like a second skin,” she said.

“Then we just accessorised it with Louis Vuitton and Roger Vivier.

“It’s all about kind of accessorising and just enjoying the process (of dressing up) and feeling good in it.”

The singer said she loved the Logies after-party because it’s where the celebrities get a chance to “settle”, relax and have some fun.

“There’s a whole other kind of different transformation into, you know, everyone’s kind of let loose and a little bit more themselves,” she said.

“It’s always about just watching everyone settle into the night.”

Jessica also dished on the weirdest question any fan had ever asked her on social media.

Laughing, she said: “Um, what toothpaste do I use?”

“I mean, you know, I use Colgate, but yeah, I’m just saying — it’s normal, pretty normal.”
