Jets have multiple scuffles on hot day at training camp

Observations from Jets training camp on Saturday.

Toe to toe

Practice was buzzing on back-to-back reps when Aaron Rodgers threw to Garrett Wilson in one-on-one coverage against Sauce Gardner.

The reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year won the first, with a left-handed pass break-up.

The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year won the second by catching a slant, slamming on the brakes and reversing direction.

Hot heads

There were two scuffles.

The first bout of pushing and shoving involved tight ends Kenny Yeboah and Jeremy Ruckert on one side and defensive linemen Solomon Thomas and Quinton Jefferson on the other.

The second was initiated by defensive linemen Micheal Clemons and Jermaine Johnson.

It did not appear any punches were thrown.

Head coach Robert Saleh blamed the heat for the flaring tempers.

Caught my eye

Fired-up offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett ran over to bump Zach Wilson in congratulations after he threaded the needle to Allen Lazard.

The Wilson-Lazard connection struck again when Wilson scrambled out of a collapsing pocket and threw on the run to the sliding receiver.

Rodgers report

After he went 6-for-8 on passes in the first two 11-on-11 periods, Rodgers was at his best in the red-zone period.

He threw a touchdown pass to Tyler Conklin over the top of air-tight coverage from Jamien Sherwood, floated a touch-pass for a two-point conversion to Corey Davis and zipped a touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in the back of a crowded end zone.

He acknowledged several individual shoutouts from fans who recognized him without a jersey number.
