JMPD Tactical Response Unit ready to fight crime proactively

Just in time for the festive season, a new JMPD Tactical Response Unit is dedicated to fighting crime proactively in South Africa’s largest city. It will be following the lead of similar forces setup in the City of Cape Town,

As reported by TopAuto, the JMPD Tactical Response Unit will collaborate with the South African Police Service (SAPS). Not just that, it will also join forces with private security firms as a multiplier.

According to Numbeo, the state of crime in Johannesburg is bordering on an epidemic. Crime index ratings of 80%, or Very High by its rating system, occupies six out of ten metrics . Therefore, the JMPD Tactical Response Unit will be called onto curb the following:

Beyond these, the JMPD Tactical Response Unit will give extra attention to kidnapping, cash-and-transit heists, as well as illegal mining and cable theft.

Johannesburg residents can expect daily searches, visible policing, community interactions and increased crime analysis. “We are going to fight fire with fire. Our people are getting killed daily, and we shall respond. Any criminal pointing a gun at a police officer or community member will be met with a shoot-to-kill approach,” said MMC for Public Safety, Cllr Mgcini Tshwaku.

Following in the wheel tracks of Cape Town’s Elite Highway Patrol Unit, JMPD is introducing a new Motorway Patrol Fleet of its own. Like in Cape Town, it will have daily 24/7 patrols and nab criminals proactively, rather than waiting for incidents to happen.
