John Farnham’s son Robert gives emotional update on legendary Aussie performer ahead of documentary premiere

John Farnham’s son has revealed the legendary Aussie performer has started singing and dancing again following his diagnosis with throat cancer.

Robert Farnham appeared with his father’s long-time friend Gaynor Wheatley on Sunrise when he gave the inspiring update and discussed the premiere of the award-winning John Farnham: Finding The Voice on Channel Seven.

Robert said his dad was improving immensely following major surgery last August.

After being diagnosed with throat cancer, the 74-year-old underwent a 12-hour operation with surgeons removing a tumour in his mouth and reconstructing his jaw.

Now, Robert says his dad is “cancer free” and “singing again”.

“He’s doing fantastic,” he told Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington.

“Just the other day he was, you know, walking around with his cane and doing a little bit of a dance, which was pretty fabulous.

“He’s walking with his dog a lot — so he’s really, really happy.”

The proud son went on to say that his dad’s passion for music had been reignited.

“He’s doing really good, he’s super positive,” he added.

“Like we’ve said before, cancer is a terrible, terrible thing. And it’s his time to walk that road, but he’s cancer free.

“And, yeah, he’s doing really, really good. So, it’s very, very good to hear him.

“He sings at home again, the whole thing.”

Speaking of the documentary, which airs on Seven and 7Plus at 7.30pm, Robert said his dad hadn’t viewed the film himself and didn’t know what to expect.

“No, he still hasn’t seen it,” he said.

“He’s not one to watch himself, you know, on, on TV, or even read reviews.

“He’s just, he’s just not like that — but we’ll make him watch it.”

Wheatley added: “I think he’ll wait till tonight to watch it on Channel Seven. I’m sure he was waiting for it to come on to the television tonight!”

John Farnham: Finding The Voice will air on Monday at 7.30pm on Seven and 7plus.
