John Leguizamo Drama ‘The Green Veil’ Picked Up for Season 2

John Leguizamo is on board to return for a second season of “The Green Veil,” which has been renewed by new independent, ad-supported streamer The Network. According to the outlet, Leguizamo and the rest of the Season 1 cast will be back as the show picks up between 10 and 15 years later, “amidst the women’s rights movement and the occupation of Alcatraz by Native Americans in 1969.”

The show’s first season, which consisted of eight 22-minute episodes, was set in the 1950s. “The Green Veil” takes on the history of oppression in America — and in particular, atrocities committed against the Indigenous community. Leguizamo plays a brutal FBI agent, “tasked with an unraveling secret mission that threatens to expose deeper secrets.”

“Every step in the developmental process we were told this show wouldn’t work, and the subject matter wasn’t accessible to an audience that mattered,” Leguizamo said in a statement. “We are pleased to have proven every executive wrong and thrilled to have the opportunity to continue telling an important story from underrepresented perspectives.”

Leguizamo executive produces along with Aram Rappaport, who launched The Network on April 30 as a home for “The Green Veil.” The show was paired with U.K. acquisition “Chivalry”; Rappaport’s plan for The Network is to premiere two shows at a time every quarter, ultimately releasing eight more series (including the second season of “Green Veil”) over the next 18 months.

According to the Network, “54% of all new users binge watched the entire season within 24 hours when it was available on May 21.” The service also says the show has been seen so far by “more than 800,000 viewers.”

Besides Leguizamo, “The Green Veil” also stars Hani Furstenberg, John Ortiz, Irene Bedard and Isabelle Poloner. Irene Bedard and Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel (of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut) are co-executive producers and serve as creative and Native American consultants on the series.
