JOSH TAYLOR’s highly-anticipated re-match fight with Jack Catterall has been dramatically postponed.
The pair were set to go head-to-head at the First Directs Arena in Leeds on April 27, with boxing fans waiting two years for the epic showdown.
But they will now have to wait a little longer as the fight has been called off after Taylor suffered an injury during his camp.
But the fight has been rescheduled and will take place on May 25 instead, with the same venue still in place.
A statement from Matchroom Boxing read: “Josh Taylor has suffered an injury in training and his upcoming fight with Jack Catterall on April 27 has been postponed.
“The fight will now move to May 25 at the same venue in Leeds – live on DAZN. Tickets remain valid for the revised date with refunds for the sold-out event at the First Direct Arena also available, in line with the terms and conditions of our ticket agency partners.
“Peter McGrail’s rematch with Ja’Rico O’Quinn will now take place on April 27 at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool. Full details for this NXTGEN event will be announced by Matchroom in due course.”
They first locked horns in February 2022 and Taylor successfully retained his undisputed super-lightweight titles following a controversial split decision after they went the distance.
The outcome was branded a “robbery” with many believing Catterall deserved the victory after knocking his rival down in the eighth round.
Fans have been demanding a rematch ever since – and they finally got their wish when the announcement was made last month.
The two fighters have been embroiled in a long-lasting social media spat since the initial fight, with Catterall recently trolling the Scot over his love for Hibs by posting pictures with a Hearts strip on.
But they will finally get the chance to put it all to bed when Taylor returns from his latest setback and they enter the ring in a couple of months’ time.
