A Perth man standing trial over the suspicious death of his newborn daughter, who doctors believe could have been “vigorously shaken”, has admitted he repeatedly lied to police and health professionals after the infant’s admission to hospital.
Speaking from the witness box in WA’s Supreme Court on Monday, Juan Daniel Visagie denied doing anything to intentionally harm Aleaha Sammut on September 5, 2020, and claimed he’d lied because he was scared the baby girl would be taken away by the Department of Child Protection.
