Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye believes Cavin Johnson is the right man for the job, for now. However, he believes the new interim boss needs to have conversations with his employers about recruiting the right players and coaches.

Junior Khanye fancies Johnson
Cavin Johnson lost his first match as Amakhosi’s interim head coach, a 2-1 reverse away to in-form Golden Arrows. Khanye believes Johnson is a good coach but needs to be given the freedom to bring in the right players and backroom staff
“Cavin knows football but you can’t do anything with some of these players at Chiefs,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.
“I need to be honest he must talk to Bra K about not having a pre-season with the players who weren’t signed by him and that’s not an excuse it’s the truth. True that he took the job knowing all these but he knows football.
“People want results now but with these types of players, it’s a problem. I mean, for example, if you take out someone like [Christian] Saile, who do you replace him with? I wonder who brought him here because there are skilful kids in Soweto, Braamfsicher. Kids around 15 years old, you do a proper assessment and develop them properly.

Mduduzi Shabalala back in the Kaizer Chiefs first team
“Mdu [Shabalala] did very well in the match but he needs support and credit to Cavin for believing in him and playing him. I know he likes skilful players, he also gave Zongo a chance at Platinum Stars, so you need more of that.
“I’m maintaining Cavin needs to face his boss because I believe he is going to win some matches and the team will get better. I know they might not give him a cheque book but in January he must talk to them about releasing certain players.
“No hard feelings but there are players that don’t deserve to play in that team and they could be good fits at other teams. He should also bring in Sudesh [Singh] as the Technical Director, [Dan] Dance as his assistant and Farouk [Khan] as Head of Development. That way I think the team will be okay and there will be continuity.”
