Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates target Ismael Toure has been sent to train with the reserves after getting distracted by interest from the Soweto Giants.
Toure is a man in demand
According to Phakaaathi, Ismael Toure has been reprimanded by Stellenbosch after having his head turned by Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. The 26-year-old Ivorian made 26 appearances in the league for Steve Barker’s men last term and became a key component of the side’s run to last season’s Nedbank Cup semi-finals. He joined in July 2023. Stellies have an MTN8 semi-final date with Sundowns on the horizon.
“Stellies were not happy with the transfer request and hence they sent him to train with the reserves. They want his head to be in the right space.”
Kaizer Chiefs continue defensive recruitment drive
With interest in the Ivorian Toure not cooling, it’s clear The Glamour Boys want to reinforce their backline even further this winter. They’ve also brought in Rushwin Dortley, recently called up by Bafana Bafana, and Angolan star Inacio Miguel is set to arrive soon.
Marquee man Dortley could become a massive star
Rushwin Dortley is in the curious position where he might make his Bafana Bafana debut before his first competitive minutes in a Kaizer Chiefs jersey. South Africa meets Uganda and South Sudan on 06 and 10 September respectively for crunch Afcon qualifiers. 22-year-old Dortley, formerly of Cape Town Spurs, is a rare breed of left-footed central defender who likes to distribute the ball from deep. He’s only got 36 senior club appearances to his name, all with Spurs, so it’s exciting to think how good he can become. He made 26 appearances in the league last term, so Chiefs and Bafana feel he’s worth the risk. He’ll compete with Given Msimango and Thatayone Ditlhokwe for a starting berth, as will new man Inacio.

Orlando Pirates finished the 2023-2024 DStv Premiership campaign in second place, earning a spot in the 2024-2025 Caf Champions League. Jose Riveiro’s team also won two major honours, beating Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 finals. Riveiro’s mandate will be to dethrone Sundowns and deliver the first top-flight league title for the Buccaneers fans since 2012.
