A central suburbs shopping centre has exploded with colour with artwork from one of Australia’s most celebrated artists.
Australian-born artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers has taken part in exhibitions across the world, including London, New York and Berlin.
Now, Karawara’s Waterford Plaza has come to life with a mural designed by Hughes-Odgers snaking along the roads and pathways of the plaza’s new High Street redevelopment.
Hughes-Odgers has also added his first freestanding sculpture, which he says is inspired by the native golden wattle and willie wagtail.
“My approach was to bring vibrancy and energy through colour and movement, celebrate nature and evoke a sense of play,” he said.
“The mural depicts two birds flying towards the central sculpture which is emerging out of the painting into the physical space.”
Artwork by local artists Jarni McGuire and Louise Monday is also set to be installed.
“People are creative creatures and it’s energising and inspiring to see creative outcomes in public spaces,” Hughes-Odgers said.
“Public art has the power to spark curiosity and to inspire and create conversation for a broad audience.
“It provides a moment of joyful escapism for the community.”
