Killers who hunted down & knifed footballer Cody Fisher to death on dancefloor after accidental nudge in club are jailed

TWO killers who hunted down and stabbed a footballer to death over an accidental nudge in a nightclub have been jailed for life.

Cody Fisher, 23, was in a crowded bar on Christmas Eve, 2022 when he made “unavoidable” contact with Remy Gordon’s back as he left.

Gordon, 23, then hatched an act of “awful revenge” for the minor incident.

He messaged his friends on Snapchat asking for help in identifying “likkle pip squeeze” Cody as he threatened to “shank him up”.

The killer then went to the Crane nightclub two days later where Cody was stabbed in the chest – puncturing his heart.

Gordon and co-accused Kami Carpenter have today been jailed for life with minimum terms of 26 and 25 years after being convicted of murder.

In a victim impact statement, Cody’s mum Tracey Fisher told how her “own life ended” the day her “best friend” was killed.

She said there will “never be forgiveness’ for his killers”, whose lies meant she did not attend her son’s trial.

Tracey added: “I instructed my son to stick up for himself and don’t let anybody bully him. I told him there are sad, weak individuals who exist and they ruin lives.

“How ironic and saddening this is exactly what happened to Cody. He was only doing what his mum told him to do. I think about this every day. I never expected my child to be murdered.”

Cody’s girlfriend Jessica Chatwin also paid tribute to the “love of my life, friend and soulmate” in a heartbreaking victim impact statement.

She said: “Losing the person you loved more than anything is a different level of pain.”

Jessica also said her “world has been shattered” as she told how her plans to spend the rest of her life with Cody have been taken away over “something so trivial”.

Birmingham Crown Court heard Cody was knifed in a “planned act of retribution”.

It came following a night out with pals at the packed Popworld club in Solihull.

Cody and a friend were making their way towards the exit through a crowd of revellers that included Gordon.

Prosecutor Michael Duck KC said: “There was a brief contact between Cody Fisher and Remy Gordon’s back it seems.

“Cody Fisher it seems did little more than touch Remy Gordon’s back. Remy Gordon was looking for an argument with somebody.”

The court was told Gordon “challenged” the footballer, who refused to apologise as he had done “nothing wrong”.

Cody left the club, unaware he was set on a path of retribution that “ultimately was to lead to the loss of [his] young life”, Mr Duck said.

The prosecutor added: “The strength of [Gordon’s] resentment can be gleaned from messages sent within about 50 minutes of the encounter in Popworld.

“He felt rather embarrassed and frustrated that he had been unable to intimidate a member of the public.”

Two days later, Cody was again out with pals – this time at the Crane nightclub – enjoying some Boxing Day drinks.

Chilling footage showed Carpenter and Gordon hunting Cody out on the busy dancefloor before he was stabbed.

Cody’s mum pays tribute to ‘best friend’

In a powerful victim impact statement, Cody’s mum Tracey said: “I instilled in Cody from a young boy that he must stick up for himself and don’t let anyone bully him.

“I told him that sad, weak individuals do exist in our society and they ruin lives.

“How ironic and saddening that this is exactly what happened to Cody. He was only doing what his mum told him to do and I think about this every day, but you never expect your child to be murdered.”

Tracey also told how her PE teacher son “loved teaching young children” and said it was his “lifelong passion” to play football.

She continued: “He loved, cared and respected his family including his dog. He had more living to do and so much more love and kindness to give to the world. Cody taught us all so much about ourselves and we miss him every single minute of every day.

“I will not get to see him go on to do more amazing things, like inspire many more children and adults as he used to do, have holidays with him and go to his footy matches every week, to see him kick a ball like he’d done from the day he could walk.

“Sadly I will never see my son live on through his children and as such never enjoy any grandchildren from him. Now all I can do along with his dog is visit Cody’s headstone, to try and make some sense of what happened to him.”

Tracey said she her family had been put through “torture” and revealed her reasons for not attending the murder trial in person.

The mum explained: “There can never be any forgiveness for what they have done to us, it may have been evident that I have not been present at the trial. This is because whatever the result it will never put Cody back in our lives.

“The thought of having to see the people who took Cody from me, have to listen to their abhorrent lies, blame each other and show no remorse for their actions is too much for a mother to bear.

“Cody Fisher was brave, fearless and the most genuine soul I knew. I had the pleasure and honour to call him my son, may you rest in peace my beautiful boy.”

Gordon later made a phonecall boasting he had “wrapped up” the footballer.

He was also captured on CCTV in a takeaway smiling as he re-enacted punches and kicks from the brawl.

During his evidence, Gordon admitted he had kicked Cody while he was on the ground but claimed he didn’t realise he’d been stabbed.

The court was told Carpenter, who had a fixation with knives, had confessed to the stabbing but he later denied this.

Reegan Anderson, 19, who went to the club with Carpenter and Gordon was cleared of murder but found guilty of affray.
