Kimera K39 Racecar Will Tackle Pikes Peak, Might Lead To A Road-Legal Conversion

  • Kimera Automobili will launch the K39 racecar on June 22.
  • The “hyper-restomod” features a completely redesigned bodykit over the EVO37 and EVO38.
  • The company is considering a road-legal conversion of the racecar that could be offered in very limited numbers.

Fresh out of the launch of the EVO38 “Integrale”, Kimera Automobili is ready for the debut of yet another model inspired by the gorgeous Lancia 037. The Kimera K39 is the company’s first racecar, featuring wild aero and wearing the traditional Martini Racing livery. The model was shown in new teasers ahead of its premiere on June 22, and is expected to tackle the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The Kimera K39 was originally announced last year, with a sketch and a 1:5 scale prototype giving us an idea of what to expect. Now, the company shows us more of its upcoming “hyper-restomod” in a new series of pitch dark teasers.

The K39 retains the quad round LED headlights of the EVO37 and EVO38, but the bodywork has been significantly redesigned, especially on the rear end. The racecar features a longer tail with a massive rear wing and full-width LED taillights underneath. We can also see a fin mounted on the roof, wide fender extensions, side vents, and what appears to be an oversized diffuser.

Kimera says that the design of the K39 was inspired by the old “Silhouette” racecar from the Martini Racing Team, which dominated the World Sportscar Championship in the ’70s and the ‘80s.

Kimera didn’t get into details about the technical specifications of the K39, but we can assume it will be faster and more powerful compared to its previous models, boasting a tuned powertrain and a track-focused chassis setup. Note that the Kimera EVO38 makes 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque, channeled to all four wheels via a motorsport-derived AWD system.

Together with the launch of the new model, Kimera will also announce “the ambitious purpose for which it was created”, which sounds a lot like a motorsport event. A new teaser published on Kimera’s official social media channels strongly suggests that this will be the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, which is scheduled for June 23.

Furthermore, the company revealed that it is currently studying the possibility of a “road-legal” conversion. This would be aimed to “a very small public of collectors that would have access to an extremely limited and exclusive production slot”.
