Lainey Wilson made a big splash at the CA Awards, where she was a multiple award-winner. In only her second year of receiving nominations, and her first year nominating for star of the year, she was able to claim the top prize. She also won for album of the year, female vocalist of the year, music video of the year, and music event of the year (the last two in conjunction with Hardy). Luke Combs’ cover of “Fast Car” won the first two on-air awards for single of the year and song of the year. Chapman released a statement, read by presenter Sara Evans, thanking everyone for the honor. Other winners included Jelly Roll, who won new artist of the year, and Chris Stapleton, who took home male vocalist of the year. Brothers Osborne won vocal duo of the year, and Old Dominion won group of the year. Wallen and Jelly Roll will have further performance slots during the three-hour telecast. Jelly Roll led all nominees with nine, with Jelly Roll as the second highest with five. Other performers for the night included Post Malone and Morgan Wallen, and an all-star salute to Jimmy Buffett with Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, and others.
