A man is fighting for his life after he was brutally assaulted outside a petrol station by a man on a violent rampage through Perth’s south, police say.
Cannington detectives have charged a 30-year-old man with multiple offences — including grievous bodily harm — after he allegedly punched two people and damaged a car in Langford on Saturday night.
Police say the man’s violent rampage began when he approached a man who was sitting in his car on Woodmore Road around 5.35pm.
“The male person spoke to the victim, and when the victim opened his car door it will be alleged the male person punched him to his face,” a police spokesperson said.
The victim managed to drive to safety before around 10pm, the same attacker allegedly pushed and punched another man outside a petrol station service window on Nicholson Road.
“The force of the punch caused the victim to fall backwards and hit his head on the concrete forecourt, rendering him unconscious,” police say.
The victim, who was aged in his 20s, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A hospital spokeswoman confirmed he remains in a critical condition in the intensive care unit on Sunday night.
The alleged attacker was arrested at a property on Woodmore Road by police after a member of the public followed him from the scene of the attack.
Police say the victim was purchasing items from the service window before he was approached by the attacker, who was unknown to him.
It is further alleged that around 6.45pm the 30-year-old Lanford man allegedly ripped a door handle from another man’s car at the same petrol station.
The alleged attacker fronted Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday, charged with grievous bodily harm over the alleged one-punch attack alongside assault occasioning bodily harm and criminal damage.
