Leonard Fournette allegedly racing before car caught on fire

Leonard Fournette must be a fan of “Fast & Furious.”

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back was reportedly driving his vehicle at high rates of speed and racing a motorcyclist before his car caught on fire and was destroyed while on a Hillsborough County highway on June 27, according to a new police report obtained by TMZ Sports.

In the report, police say a witness told them that Fournette had been driving northbound on I-275 when the running back passed him in his black Dodge Durango moving at high speeds.

The witness then stated that “he observed the vehicle and [a] motorcycle to be racing and changing lanes” and also was in view of “when fire then erupted from the bottom of” Fournette’s vehicle.

The report also states the witness saw Fournette eventually slow down and pull over before escaping the burning car – but the motorcyclist never stopped to check on his fellow racer.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette (7) is shown during the second half of an NFL football game against the Arizona Cardinals, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022, in Glendale, Ariz. Fournette appears to have avoided injury after his car caught fire while he was driving on a freeway. Fournette posted a video to Instagram on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, where he showed his burned vehicle on the side of the highway. Fournette, who was a first-round pick by Jacksonville in 2017, is currently a free agent after being released by the Bucs during the offseason in a salary cap move.

This eyewitness account is much different from the one from the Super Bowl champ himself provided.

According to the report Fournette “stated he has been having problems with the vehicle as of late,” prior to the car bursting into flames and had no mention of the prior street race.

After the incident, the 27-year-old posted a video of the destroyed Dodge SUV on his Instagram page with the caption “Man it was one of those days today, but I would like to thank God, my car caught on fire while I was driving, But I am still blessed.”

No further comment has been made by Fournette, currently a free agent, since the police report has been released.

Florida Highway Patrol came out saying that officers did not have enough information to forward any type of investigation and that “no further action is expected at this point.”
