Lizzo’s tour stop in Perth is putting local vegan eateries on the foodie map as another reveals what the megastar ordered from their menu.
Carina’s Kitchen Perth, a fully vegan bakery in Mount Hawthorn, posted a carousel of photos to their Instagram of a box of delicious-looking treats that a member of Lizzo’s team picked up.
It comes after her choice of Bahn Mi sandwich while in town was revealed to have been from Le Vietnam Cafe on Barrack Street.
Business owner Niaz Pritchard, who took over Karina’s Kitchen four months ago, said she was excited to finally reveal the order which was made on the afternoon of the About Damn Time singer’s show in Perth.
“I was getting ready to close up and I got a call from her team who apologised but said they’d just heard we had the best vegan cinnamon scrolls in Perth,” she told PerthNow.
“A member of her team came to pick them up and showed me her arena credentials… and I was asked not to post on social media about the order until Lizzo had left.
“We added some extra doughnuts, and Vegemite and vegan cheese scrolls, which they messaged back to tell me they all loved.”
RAC Arena later contacted Niaz to put the bakery on their official supplier list.
“They said they’re finding most celebrities are vegan these days and they are always looking for more options to cater to them,” she said.
“It was just so exciting to hear Lizzo had heard of us and we’ll be able to show off the great food we have right here in Perth to other big performers.”
Celebrity catering is just another boon for the flourishing business, with Niaz saying she recently created two new positions in the bakery to keep up with demand.
Lizzo joined the increasingly popular plant-based movement in 2020 and has been open about her own vegan journey in the face of body-shamers, but appears to have ditched the raw foods in favour of the cooked meals she chose in Perth.
