Lizzo: US superstar rapper wept tears of joy after learning she has been nominated for an Emmy

Lizzo spent her first night in WA holed up in her Perth five-star hotel room weeping tears of joy after discovering she was an Emmy nominee.

The US superstar had just touched down in Western Australia before her gig at RAC arena on Friday night when she found out the exciting news.

Although she hasn’t emerged to check out the local sights on offer, she instead reacted to news that her Max original “Lizzo: Live in Concert” was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) at the Emmys.

She posted crying emojis at the prospect of starring at the TV bash once again after triumphing last year.

On that occasion, the Juice singer won the Outstanding Reality Competition Program for her show “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls”.

The show centred on her finding 13 women to be her backing dancers.

She collected the prize and said: “The trophy is nice, but my emotion is for these people who are on the stage with me.”

“The stories they shared are not unique; they just don’t get the platform. Let’s tell more stories. When I was a little girl, I only wanted to see myself in the media. Someone fat like me, Black like me, beautiful like me. If I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I’d say, ‘You’re going to see that person, but b…., it’s going to have to be you.’ This is for my big girls.”
