Logie Awards 2024 nominees announced

Nominations for the 64th TV Week Logie Awards have been announced, and it’s great news for Channel Seven.

Both Larry Emdur and Sonia Kruger are on the nominees list for the coveted Gold Logie Award and the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.

After more than three decades on Australian TV, including on The Price is Right, Emdur is finally up for the top prize for the first time.

Kruger, the reigning Gold Logie holder, was shortlisted for the highest prize in national television for a third year in a row. She’s been nominated as presenter of Dancing With The Stars, The Voice Australia and Big Brother.

Last year she won the Gold Logie at a glittering ceremony in Sydney.

7NEWS has been nominated twice in the Best News Coverage or Public Affairs Report category for the team’s coverage of the Israel-Hamas conflict and Chris Reason’s series of investigative reports into the sexual misconduct of the Bishop of Broome.

Michael Usher is also nominated for a Silver Logie for Best News or Public Affairs Presenter for his tireless work on 7NEWS and 7NEWS Spotlight.

Home and Away star Tristan Gorey has been nominated for the prestigious Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent, while Rob Collins was nominated twice as Best Lead Actor in a Drama for Seven’s drama RFDS, as well as for his role on ABC’s Total Control.

Half of the nominations for best entertainment program were snapped up by the Seven Network, including for Australian Idol, Dancing with the Stars and The Voice Australia.

Seven’s record-smashing coverage of last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup has been nominated for Best Sports Coverage, alongside the network’s broadcast of the AFL Finals Series.

The Matildas’ performance in the tournament gripped the nation, with more than 11 million Australians tuning into Seven’s broadcast of the semi-final loss to England.

A nail-biting win against France, won by Australia after 15 penalty shots, was seen by more than 7 million, with total audience for the tournament coming in at 18.6 million Australians — a TV record.

Seven has also been nominated for Best Miniseries or Telemovie for its work on The Claremont Murders, a re-telling of serial killer Bradley Robert Edwards’ dark Perth history.

The Logies underwent a dramatic change this year, overhauling its categories. Previously, the awards were separated into two streams, the publicly voted “popular” categories and the industry-voted “outstanding” gongs.

While three awards – the Gold Logie, most popular presenter and most popular new talent – remain up to the public to decide, the remaining categories have been merged to be renamed “best”.

This year the 20-year-old son of Steve Irwin, Robert, is nominated for a Gold Logie, up against comedian Andy Lee and actress Asher Keddie.

TV presenter and comedian Julia Morris and broadcaster Tony Armstrong are also nominated.

Sam Pang will again host the show after his successful run last year in which he roasted a slate of celebrities including Andy Lee, Karl Stefanovic, David Koch and Sam Neill.

Voting opens from 6pm AEST tonight and runs until Saturday, August 17, at 7pm AEST for the best categories and until Sunday, August 18, at 7.30pm for the most popular categories. You can vote here.

The Logies will be broadcast on Channel 7 on August 18.
