Logies 2023 gossip: Verdict’s star Virginia Gay reveals boozy good luck charm to deal with first nomination

Verdict’s Virginia Gay joked she will turn up to tonight’s Logies with a hipflask of gin to deal with her first nomination for playing a lesbian.

“I am so proud I am nominated,” the 41-year-old said before hitting the red carpet in Sydney.

“I will be taking a hipflask of gin!”

The All Saints star and former Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts grad said she leapt at the LGBTIQA+ challenge.

“I am so proud of it,” she said. “I play Magda Szubanski’s wife in that show. It’s a beautiful comic romp whodunit series. They called and said ‘do you want to be Magda Szubanski’s wife?’ Australia’s sweetheart? The woman who personally consolidated the Yes vote for marriage equality. Abso-f…ing-lutely I want to be her wife. Sign me up yesterday!”

Now on an absolute career roll, Gay said she could be in the money soon with all her good karma.

“It’s wild,” she said. “I feel like I should buy a lottery ticket. I got announced as the artistic director of Adelaide Cabaret Festival, nominated for a Logie and the premiere of Dancing With The Stars all within 12 hours of each other.”

As for what she plans to do with her new moves from the Channel 7 dance show, Gay said: “I am going to pitch dance-heavy musicals to every State theatre in the country! I want to learn to swing dance and maybe an Argentinean tango — if I can find ways to do that, I will.”
