Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Netflix’s weirdest reality dating show, “Love Is Blind,” returns for Season 6 just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, the reality series follows couples as they date and get engaged – all without laying eyes on each other.
The singles bond by talking through the wall of their “pods,” which are the designated rooms for their dates.
After deciding to tie the knot, they finally meet in person and speed through a romantic vacation, an engagement, and a wedding…if they can make it that far without breaking up.
This season’s singles are from Charlotte, NC.
Spoiler alert – here’s everything to know about the five couples who got engaged at the end of the first six episodes of Season 6 episodes, now streaming.
Johnny and Amy
Johnny, 27, an account executive, got engaged to Amy, 27, an e-commerce retail specialist. Amy, who is from Puerto Rico, admitted that the blonde-haired-blue-eyed Johnny isn’t her usual type.
“I honestly wouldn’t have approached somebody that looked like him in the real world, because I always had my fixations on ethnic men,” she said.
But, she added, “Honestly, it wouldn’t have mattered what he looked like. I truly felt like I fell in love with his heart and soul.”
They both expressed a desire to visit Japan, she opened up to him about feeling like an “outlier” during her childhood, and they connected over their love for their siblings.
Brittany and Kenneth
Kenneth, 26, a middle school principal, got engaged to Brittany, 25, a senior client partner.
Brittany used to be a teacher, so they bonded over their similar experiences, and Kenneth also said he liked that “She loves God. When Brittany shared that, I was like, ‘I want to spend more time with you,’” he said.
He opened up about his mother’s death when he was twelve, Brittany opened up about her father’s death when she was five years old.
“Having to go through things that mature you quickly sets you apart from other people,” she said, and he agreed.
Kenneth, who is black, admitted that Brittany, who is white, isn’t his usual type.
“You know, I’ve always dated black women, this will be the first time I’ve ever dated and married outside of my race,” he said.
“I see Ken first for who he is on the inside, and how much his soul is worth. The color of my skin does not matter. The color of my partner’s skin does not matter,” said Brittany.
AD and Clay
Amber Desiree, aka “AD,” 33, real estate broker, got engaged to Clay, 31, who’s in enterprise sales and is an entrepreneur.
In the pods, they flirted, bonded over struggles with dating apps, she liked that he said he’s ready to settle down.
But, he said he wanted a cat, and she said “I’m terrified of cats.”
“I’d be lying to you if I said the physical isn’t important, but I just have a feeling that AD’s definitely going to be a good looking girl,” Clays said, before they officially laid eyes on each other. “At the end of the day, I do love that girl behind those closed doors.”
They both called each other “fun,” and said that fun and laughter is important. They had a brief tense moment when Clay felt “blindsided” to have a “romantic rival,” since AD had also been interested in Matt, 37, a senior financial advisor. But, they got over that stumbling block.
Jimmy and Chelsea
Jimmy, 27, who works in software sales, got engaged to Chelsea, 31 a flight attendant and event planner.
Chelsea was originally torn between Jimmy and Trevor, 30, an account manager, but chose Jimmy.
Jimmy also had a Freudian slip where he said, “Jessica — Chelsea — is someone I can literally talk to about anything,” referring to Jessica, 29, an executive assistant who he also spent time dating in the pods (he admitted that he felt a connection with both Jessica and Chelsea).
After they met, Jimmy told Chelsea, “I almost went home this morning. Not anything against you, just every bit of this experiment is draining emotionally.”
A dismayed Chelsea said, “I don’t wanna hear that…i don’t wanna hear that you were about to go home, that would have sucked.” She later told the camera, “Maybe I wasn’t what he was expecting. I don’t want him to wake up one morning and decide that he screwed up with his decision.”
Jimmy later commented, “She definitely lied to me on some of how she looked. Chelsea told me she looked like Megan Fox. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter, Im very attracted to her, I can work with that.”
Jeramy and Laura
Jeramy, 32, who works in Intralogistics, got engaged to Laura, 34, an account director.
“I don’t know if I’m exactly Laura’s type,” he said before they saw each other in person.
“But I think that we have such a genuine connection, that I could care less.”
While they were in the pods, the two traded banter about their fashion senses, and bonded over finding holidays like Christmas to be stressful and sometimes lonely.
She said that cleaning up after past boyfriends has been a “point of contention in past relationships,” and she liked that he said he likes washing dishes before bed, and that his house is “immaculate.”
He was nervous to tell her that he has a sleep apnea, but she said, “I love this fact about you.”
“Love Is Blind” Season 6 episodes 7-9 will premiere Feb. 21, episodes 10-11 will premiere Feb. 28 and the finale will premiere March 6.
