To be eligible for this stream change option, candidates must hold a UG degree in any stream and successfully clear the university’s entrance test.
Lucknow University has introduced a groundbreaking initiative for students seeking admission to postgraduate courses starting from the academic session 2024-25. Under the National Education Policy (NEP) adopted by the university, candidates now have the flexibility to change their streams based on their performance in the entrance examination. Prof. Geetanjali Mishra, the Dean of Academics at Lucknow University, highlighted the new policy’s key aspects. She mentioned that students with a humanities background can now pursue courses in commerce or science, and vice versa.
To be eligible for this stream change option, candidates must hold a UG degree in any stream and successfully clear the university’s entrance test. The entrance test will focus on the candidate’s knowledge based on the graduation syllabus. It will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions, each carrying one mark. This approach ensures that students are assessed fairly based on their academic background.
“A student who has a BA or BCom degree can apply for MSc and similar will be the case with other streams. Also, if a student has studied humanities at 10+2 level and graduation, he or she can study science at PG level. The only eligibility we have set to attain this multidisciplinary education is that a candidate should have a UG degree in any stream and should crack the university’s entrance test,” said Prof Geetanjali Mishra as per TOI.
Prof. Mishra emphasized that Lucknow University’s decision to implement this policy aligns with the NEP’s objective of providing students with the freedom to transition between different fields of study. By prioritizing student choice over rigid academic structures, the university aims to create a more inclusive and dynamic learning environment.
