Madonna Postpones Her ‘Celebration’ Tour After Startling ICU Visit

Madonna has postponed her tour after a “serious bacterial infection” left her hospitalized, it was learned Wednesday. The singer, 64, was set to embark on her highly anticipated ‘Celebration’ tour on July 15th but has since been put on pause as she recovers.

She is, thankfully, expected to get better. “Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care,” longtime manager Guy Oseary said in a statement posted to Instagram. “A full recovery is expected.”

Below, here is everything we know so far.

Has Madonna left the hospital?

Yes, Madonna has left the hospital and is “on the road to recovery,” per a statement she posted to Instagram on July 10th. In the message, the singer shared a selfie as well as an update on her health and tour. She also sent thanks to friends and fans for the well wishes.

“Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement,” she wrote. “I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.”

A day prior to the statement, the singer was spotted out in New York City for the first time since her health scare. She appeared to be, thankfully, in good spirits and free of any noticeable ailments.

The message continued: “My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I can assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can!”

Why was Madonna hospitalized?

According to Oseary, she was hospitalized on Saturday, June 24th after falling ill. Not much is known about the cause of her illness, but the details of the incident are rather startling.

“Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which [led] to a several day stay in the ICU,” he explained. Oseary went on to note that the musician is still receiving medical care.

According to Page Six, Madonna was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive. Upon her arrival, she was intubated for at least a day and was supported by her daughter Lola Leon, per sources.

On June 29th, CNN reported that Madonna had been discharged from the hospital and is feeling better after her health scare. According to the outlet, she was discharged and transported to her residence via private ambulance after the 5 day stay. A source has also confirmed that Madonna is “in the clear,” adding that she is “out of the ICU and recovering.”

When will the ‘Celebration’ tour resume?

In the July 10th statement, Madonna confirmed that the tour has been rescheduled and will kick off in Europe during the month of October. As of now, the North American leg has been rescheduled to an unknown date (presumably the spring or summer of 2024).
