Man allegedly threatens neighbours with gun in rural Northern Territory town over Facebook post about pet dogs

A man has been arrested in the Northern Territory after allegedly threatening the occupants of a rural home with a gun over a Facebook post.

The 42-year-old man allegedly trespassed at the home on Trippe Rd in Humpty Doo — approximately 40km from Darwin — about 9pm on Tuesday while armed with the weapon.

The man was “feeling aggrieved about a Facebook post regarding dogs wandering into yards”, Northern Territory Police said.

The 42-year-old allegedly threatened the occupants of the home before leaving.

He was later arrested by police, who seized the loaded firearm.

The man has been charged with possessing an unregistered firearm, failing to secure the firearm, possessing ammunition without a permit or licence, possessing or using a firearm while unlicensed, assaulting or threatening someone with a firearm or weapon, and trespassing on enclosed premises.

He will appear in Darwin Local Court on Wednesday.
